I haven’t finished this book - it’s a difficult read at some points. I am going to ducking finish it though 😅 The Spell of the Sensuous by David Abram So far I really love it and I think its ideas should be shared. It’s an anthropological-centered breakdown about human development and the rift that occurred between us and nature. One of the things he points to is the development of writing. At this point people were able to structure their thoughts in a way unseen before. He backs this up with research on current isolated communities that he visits and discusses. Lyrical nature based language (I like to think of him like Annie Dillard with a point, though I like her too). It’s very grounding to read, he paints scenes from his visits, like standing in flooded rice paddies in the dead of night, seeing millions of stars above, and then reflected back up from below.
