Hi everyone! It’s Friday and I hope you have a great weekend. My week couldn’t end more miserably, I’m afraid, thanks to myChive shutting its doors.. actually, more like slamming them shut by not giving us a chance to even say goodbye to our followers….

Fun fact! I joined that website back in 2018 after Redditors kept telling me that theChive was stealing my pictures… like, if you can’t beat them, join them right? I needed a fresh start too after getting banned by Instagram on my account that I spent years on and had close a hundred thousand followers…and myChive seemed like a nice community.

I spent the last six years there getting to know many of you who are here now and it took so much effort, but I had finally gone from 0 to 27,000 followers which is crazy for theChive, and in the last few weeks got to the tip top of the Top Chivettes list, which was just so unbelievably amazing after all this time.

And then I logged in yesterday to find out that John Resig had announced that he didn’t want to pay for it anymore since it was super expensive and he just killed it without any notice to all the people had contributed so much to it. Since then, I’ve gone through four of the five stages of grief…. Denial and total disbelief that they’d just turn it off, to anger that they’d betrayed the community, to bargaining with Bob by telling him that they could decrease the cost other ways, to where I am now… total depression. It’s hard to even express how upsetting it is to devote so much time and energy to something over years and just to have it be all for nothing… I feel like its so easy for social media companies to shut down services or do instabans without even considering the effect is has on people. I’m especially sad for all the people that I met over there that I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to…many of them never go on the main site and they’ve all just disappeared. Now it’s just a place that I’ll go to just dump pics onto, I suppose, cos thats their new model for Chivettes.

Anyways.. I dont know what’s next for theChive. I'll always really appreciate it for getting to meet so many of you from there and the fact that they do lots of nice things for Chivettes and the community, but this really shook my confidence in them and I just want some good news from there for a change...!
