It was proclaimed a game sanctuary by President Paul Kruger on 25 February 1895, 128 years ago. It was the first game sanctuary in Africa. Its main purpose was to protect the shy and timid oribi from hunters. The oribi is a small antelope found in southern Africa. Today the reserve has zebra, blue wildebeest, giraffe and other animals. The last photo is a family of giraffes that we encountered on the day these photos were taken. It is amazing to just have to drive 10 minutes from home and see all these majestic animals in the bush.
