Self portraiture is such a healing tool for me, especially nude or barely clothed portraiture.
I think I began taking photos of my body at a time when I really hated the way I looked.
Dysmorphia had begun to take root in my brain, and the way I processed those negative feelings was by turning the parts of myself I most despised...into art.
In artistic nudes, I could see my body in a new light...a creative light, one that reflected my being in a way that I could appreciate.
That was a turning point for me; I was no longer critiquing the little things I didn't like about my body, but instead I was critiquing my skills in capturing a ✨ moment ✨. A person. A vulnerability. An atmosphere.
And as my creative and technical skills improved, so did my confidence. I got used to seeing my body in different positions. It required me to appreciate my body in a very real and thoughtful way.
This is why I think EVERYONE should try to take pretty nudes :)
