I figured it out when I was 27, having spent most of my life being utterly convinced I was straight. So much so that after having had sex with a woman, I rejected her offer for future encounters because, and I quote: “I’m not a lesbian, so no thank you!” 🤦🏻♀️ yes, I still regret that and feel sorry for the lady in question. If I could apologise to her now, I would. Pride and all those who have fought for acceptance are the reason my coming out was almost a non-issue. I was able to tell my friends, partner at the time, and family without consequences. I will be forever grateful for the shoulders I stand on today. We have a long way to go yet. LGTBQIA acceptance is not a given, as is evidenced by what’s happening in the US and even in my home country, The Netherlands. Being able to live your truth is a human right, and I *firmly* stand behind my queer siblings. Being trans is valid. Being gay is valid. Being lesbian is valid. Being bisexual is valid. Being anything but straight is valid. Thank you for being here with me. Thank you for supporting a queer as fuck person. Let’s make sure Pride can someday be just a celebration, rather than a revolution and demonstration against oppression ❤️🌈
