Pan American World Airways (or, Pan Am) was founded way back in 1927 and by the 1950s and 60s it became synonymous with luxury air travel and Pan Am stewardesses were the height of professional glamor.
Becoming a stewardess was like becoming a model: they had stringent criteria to meet from height, weight, appearance and even how to smoke a cigarette.
In spite of what I imagine, it looks like they weren’t actually permitted to wear anything risqué under their uniforms, so you’ll have to pretend it looked something like this.
