The Little Green Fairy:
Absinthe, a spirit containing green anise and wormwood, has a long and fun history. The short of it, though, is that it was considered a hallucinogen much loved by bohemian culture and was referred to as "the green fairy."
The Green Fairy association became synonymous with absinthe culture: whether you were hallucinating that the green fairy was visiting you, or you were loosely interpreting the green color of the absinthe and its effects as fairylike, is up to the imbiber.
I like to think the green fairy, if she lived in New Orleans, would probably don a micro bikini in a bright green color and hang out in a haunted pool and it would probably look something like this.
