🖕🏽🤬 0NLYFANS SUCK ASS !! 🤬🖕🏽

By now I'm sure many of you heard already that 0nlyFans has released a new Terms of Service effective starting October that bans all "sexually explicit" content—which, yes, means porn. Which means I can longer do the work that I do here on this platform.

I took the past two days to process and gain perspective on this impending shift. On Aug 9, I posted about waking up to find that 0nlyFans had removed a big chunk of my posts without prior notice because they didn't align with their rules. Many were removed for violations never explained. But some were removed because the content contained sexual partners that did not have a verified 0nlyFans account tagged. According to @PostCultRev's twitter thread (cited below):

"OnlyFans isn’t ditching porn and sex workers because it’s trying to get new investments. It’s ditching them because on October 1st of 2021 MasterCard is implementing new rules governing sites with adult content that use their payment processing systems."

"These rules will basically require that OnlyFans (and every other site that accepts MasterCard payments) not only fully verify every user and every person who appears in every adult video, but review all posted content before publication, including real-time review of livestreams"

"The new records-keeping, review processes, verification and other requirements are going to be expensive and time-consuming. OnlyFans seems to have decided it’s not worth it. More importantly though, these rules will put incredible pressure on smaller sites and indie creators."

I am deeply angered by the continuous persecution and censorship of sex work by major institutions that have benefitted and grown because of the sex work community. And this history is far from new. We have seen it repeated when the feds shut down RentB0y in 2015, in the demise of Tumblr in 2018, the ban of sex work on Patreon in 2018, the grand swiping of unverified P0rnHub videos last year, the growing heavy-handed censorship on Instagram over the past years, and now the pressure by big money players to puritanically sanitize OnlyFans.

But no matter how many times sex workers are evicted from our space of work, we always find new platforms to find community and continue our work. And you know why? Because sex sells. It always has. There will always be a need for our work. These conservative policymakers are probably the ones who need to get off from our sluttiness the most ! We live in an oxyMORONic society where the more it represses sexual freedom and expression, the more in demand sex workers become… But at what cost?

There is very little legal protection or social respect that allows sex workers to do our work safely. The success of 0nlyFans has been exciting because it provided users a safe haven to make money from the comfort of our bedrooms, not having to put ourselves in potential higher-risk situations like in full-service sex work (aka esc0rt*ng), and allowed us the autonomy to choose who we work with, when we work, and what we want to make. But since its inception, the company has never been explicitly supportive of its sex workers users, who have made it the near $1-billion household name it is today. Instead of supporting those who gave it power, instead of being a pioneer in normalizing and destigmatizing the sex industry, it succumbed to institutional conservatism like all the promising platforms before for its own financial security.

0nlyFans used to be a beacon of hope for sex workers, a growing prototype in the normalization of sex work. But I wonder if it’s digging its own grave now that it that it’s thrown us under the bus. I’m tired of sex work having to operate in an underground economy because our sex-shaming society prevents us from having any space to make money online that we have full ownership of.

I am currently processing the best way to continue the Sammy Sinsss universe on a different platform. I am researching the different platforms JustForFans, 4myfans, and Fansly. I will update you as I decide what direction is best for my work. In the meantime, I will continue to post on 0nlyFans for the next incoming weeks.

Thank you for supporting me through this journey, and I hope you continue to join me wherever it takes me next. đź’‹
