Two things about this picture to keep you alive and climbing:
1️⃣ Secure yourself directly to a redundant and equalizing anchor system prior to focusing on any non-climbing related tasks like photography.
2️⃣ When sport climbing, ENSURE that your quick draws are horizontally opposed to prevent accidental un-clipping of your rope.

Before starting a scramble, plan your ascent/ descent and be certain both are within your climbing ability. Down climbing a route is extremely dangerous ⛔️⚠️ and should be avoided by hiking down whenever possible 🥾

Wearing your helmet is important while climbing and belaying. Climbers are susceptible to falls, swings, and inversions, while belayers are extremely vulnerable to falling rocks.

With spring around the corner, many of us are getting back out there in the cold mornings 🥶
The key to staying warm is to stay dry. Use high wind areas, such as peaks and ridges, to dry out damp clothing when sweat happens 🌬 Always rest your pack facing the ☀️ with shoulder straps up to aid in drying. Synthetic materials, like polyester and nylon, dry remarkably faster than natural fibers, such as cotton or wool. So take a brief moment to dry your layers and appreciate the view knowing that you’re going to stay comfortable on your outing 😊

Always take a pic of geographical markers or mining claims for reference in the event of an emergency. Relaying the information on top of markers can help rescue teams find you faster. The climbing community often refers to crags and routes by names other than what is officially listed on maps. Providing first responders with a nearby recorded landmark will save time and potentially lives. This is good practice for all outdoor activities conducted in remote areas.

When joining two ropes together for a lengthy rappel, be sure to use a knot intended for life safety, such as the double fisherman’s knot 🤠
