⏰Throwback Thursday⏰ 🗓️ 2002 20 years ago I was 29 years old This was the year we started taking photos at full speed...exactly 20 years ago😮. I was so out of my depth😅. I just winged it and hoped the photos were acceptable. We used the house as a studio with makeshift lighting😜. We always used to wait until the kids were at school or asleep😂. They only found out about the hobby as adults! Oh, the good old days... I actually find it so nice to look back at the old photos. Thursdays has become my favourite posting day! 🪵 The Fallen Tree 🪵 I love trees, those of you that has been here for a while, knows that well. That is why I'm so sad when a big tree, that stood tall and strong, for many years, falls down. But I do realize that all things must come to and end. Even the strongest trees fall down eventually. I call them my "Fallen Heroes". And even in death a "Fallen Hero" can make for a nice seat! I love following poem. It is lovely. 🪵 The Fallen Tree 🪵 - Alfred Castner King Uprooted and disheveled, there The monarch of the forest lay; As if in desolate despair Its last resistance fell away, And overwhelmed, in evil hour Went down before the tempest's power. After the photoshoot, we sit down on the ground and just enjoy the forest...with a cold beer in hand. It is amazing how different the beer taste when you are just content to sit there, listing to the birds, the wind and the rustling of the leaves.

🎨 Sunday Art 🖼️ 🌱 Waiting in the Weeds – Eagles 🎶 And I've been waiting in the weeds Waiting for my time to come around again and Hope is floating on the breeze Carrying my soul high up above the ground and I've been keeping to myself Knowing that the seasons are slowly changing Even though you're with somebody else He'll never love you like I do 🌿 Kakiebos 🌿 The weeds in front of me is called Kakiebos. It arrived from Argentine during the Second Freedom War as part of animal feed. It quickly became a weed that is everywhere in the country. Kakiebos is a very useful weed, not, not as useful as marijuana! 😅😂Iţ has various medicinal properties, including antiseptic and antibiotic properties. The flower heads can be used for animal bedding to repel flies and mosquitoes. Strewn in calf and lamb pens it will prevent foot rot. Here is the kicker... The perfume “Charlie” is based on kakiebos. As a matter of fact, kakiebos is an ingredient of many perfumes!

🎨 Sunday Art 🖼️ 🎶 "Run To The Water" - Live run to the water and find me there burnt to the core but not broken we'll cut through the madness of these streets below the moon with a nuclear fire of love in our hearts Lekgalameetse, “place of water” in the sePedi language. In my language I just call it “Paradise”. It is a stunningly beautiful place that I just can’t get enough of. The main road through the nature reserve is called the “Orrie Baragwanath” Pass. One of the exit points is called the “Western Gate”. The first time we exited via this gate it became and adventure in it’s own. Just to reach the gate was a slow and tiring 4x4 experience. When we reached the gate, my husband was so happy. Through the gate it will be easy driving...wrong! Oh so wrong! It was here that the 4x4 excursion only began. Rocks, gullies, tree roots! Name it, it was thrown at us. It lasted for hours, with rest stops to take photos. Eventually my husband stopped and said he had to rest. We relaxed for about thirty minutes, had a beer and rested. We eventually got back in the car, ready for a lot more hours of t0rture. So off we went, ready, with knifes in our teeth... We started driving and 100 meters further down the road became a highway! Ok, not really a highway, but such a nice gravel road it felt like a highway.

He is 1.5 hours away. It took us 10 hours to get there!😮 We drove back road to his place and stopped numerous times for photos. Lunch was at a road house diner where we had the best Dagwood Burger ever!🍔 It was a great day indeed.

Please don't judge😅) [ Throwback Thursday ] This was taken 11 years ago in the woods just north of the quint little town of Haenertsburg. The town was established in 1886 with the discovery of gold by Carl Ferdinand Haenert. Frequent mists and relatively high rainfall have created a lush vegetation with forest patches occupying the gullies which dot the rolling grasslands and surrounding mountains. However, large areas of rare, and botanically very diverse, grassland have been planted to timber (primarily timber for pulping). I find this so sad. I love the pine forest, but I always think of the native plants it had to replace. When we drive through the pine forest, the are patches where the native flora still flourishes...and I try and imagine what the forest looked liked before the pine trees got planted.
