There was a special magic to these calls to the house phone ✨
"Hello, can I have Emma on the phone?" - my friend would ask when my mom answered the phone. Then I would be handed the phone, and my friend and I would have long discussions about the previous day at school and doing homework.
There was something exciting about those conversations, about asking to get the right person on the phone.
It's not like that now. Everyone has cell phones, all sorts of messengers. It has become easier to contact a friend, but at the same time there is no longer any excitement in anticipation of when the other end of the line will pick up the phone, whether it will be the right person or whether you will still have to say the phrase: "Hello, could you put Emma on the phone?"

When characters in movies would greet sunrises and sunsets, crying or marveling at the beauty of the moment, I honestly didn't understand it. I mean, what's so special about a sunrise or sunset?
