All the gauges were reading good. I had just checked the oil which was good. Then about 20 miles later I noticed my rear-view camera shut off. Meaning no power was going to it. Then I looked at the gauges and they were all flat. Something wasn’t right. I pulled off at the nearest spot. I popped the hood. The engine was still running. My assumption was the alternator went bad and the engine would continue to run until the battery was drained. 2 minutes later the engine stopped running. We were in the middle of the mountain 3 hours from the nearest town with resources. I kept my cool. I have been in these situations before and they always work out.
Not even 2 minutes later a trucker who was traveling with his wife pulled up next to us to check his windshield fluid. He asked if we were ok. I explained what was going on. Told him I have roadside assistance but no cell signal to make a call. They invited us to join them for the 3 hour drive and they would drop us off at a hotel.
So we spent the last 3 hours of that trip in a Semi truck which was cool. Got checked into our hotel and spent the entire next day making phone calls and getting the van towed to Fort Nelson, British Columbia where we were staying. Got the van dropped off at a mechanic shop down the street from the hotel. Hopefully they have the right alternator in stock to get us back on the road soon. 🙏
PS we tried uploading the Vlog video, but we could not get it to work for the life of us here at the hotel Wi-Fi. We will try again at the next stop.
Update - The Alternator went bad on the Lady Layer at the Toad River Bridge in the British Columbia wilderness.
Caught a ride with a trucker and his wife who took us to Fort Nelson 3 hours away. Working on getting it towed here today and get a new alternator installed.
We are safe and in a cozy hotel. Fort Nelson Is a cool town everything is in walking distance.

Day one of our road trip back to the lower 48. We drove 5 1/2 hours yesterday from Anchorage to Tok, Alaska. Today we are two hours from the Canadian border. We will cross into the border and drive through most of the Yukon today.

My back is feeling much stronger since the last time it went out on me this past summer. It was hard to manage for a few weeks which was way longer than my normal recovery time! I think we all go through things with our body that can be frustrating. So always do your best to take care of it.
