Flowers from a local market garden, a swallowtail butterfly caterpillar on baby carrot plants, kitten playing hide and seek among the flowers... finished the day off Thursday with a new beer tasting at work while stemming wild grapes for another beer we brew. I'm not a fan of alcoholic beverages but I do like to try and taste new things. And yes, the wild grapes are really tiny, especially with the drought this year.

The cake didn't completely collapse but it was definitely leaning....the thing nightmares are made of 😬🤦😂
Mom wasn't aware that you need a central support not just support in between layers so it was leaning pretty bad when I arrived to finish decorating.
Another wedding to cater this weekend... fingers crossed we have a better cake and all goes well 😅

To celebrate me feeling a bit better after the flu, Beau made this fascinating flourless 2 ingredient chocolate cake using the method the author of the article below also tried. A dozen eggs and 26 oz of Nutella made a 9x13 pan of fluffy goodness one must try because I can't quite describe the texture. I think it'd be good with a layer of Nutella on top or some Coconut Pecan Frosting. Try it and tell me what you think? 💕😋

Midnight... Having a cup of goat's milk over a pan of 25 cups of buttercream, ermine and cream cheese frosting...all mixed together, because three is better than one, right!? I tried Beau's stand mixer, my bread mixer, the Ninja blender, my hand held egg beater, and BOTH hand blenders...only the Ninja blender got it smooth. So I guess I'll be packing that along when I head to the wedding. I think I need sleep 😂

How is it August already!?!!! I know I've been slacking but in my defense, I picked up another shift at work, my sister's wedding is 3 weeks away, and of course I volunteered to do the cake! 😂🤷 Tomorrow I'm booked for a cake decorating class and Wednesday I have a Food Manager's final to study for. That's the extracurriculars while I try to balance family and farm in the meantime.
We are picking up some more sheep this month and next month as well as selling some, so those arrangements all have to be made. We also welcomed a new milk goat to the farm last week so twice daily milking has been added to the chores. Say Hello Neloni!! Already up to typical goat shenanigans 😂 💕

A little update from the homestead farm...
Winter rye ready to harvest for seed for next season's cover crop (not sure what we're gonna do with all the thistles 🤣), happy sheep and chunky lambs, fresh oyster mushrooms, a big 5 gallon carboy of kombucha... This is the positive side, continued drought is a very real concern as we face two more weeks of dry hot weather.

It's the little things... finding this peacock lighter, then later a hand crocheted bag using upcycled plastic bags just like grandma used to turn into rugs. More dress shopping for my sister's surprise wedding...tried on another dress cause I do need to find one even though we haven't set a date for my wedding. Later this evening found out I'm making her cake and doing much of the decorating...I guess wedding planning/coordinating added to my resume. I'm working on a master list of everything we need, how it's to be done, and who's doing what, and when. If I wasn't busy enough with the farm, I'm certainly very busy now!! I'm enjoying it though 😁

Busy weekend, fooled around with the livestock, looked at some real estate, rescued 5 pickup loads of plants being discarded from a wholesale greenhouse, and Saturday was Sausagefest at work. This is sadly the only pic I got! 75 pounds of fresh homemade sausage in 3 flavors. We did roasted red potatoes, Mac n cheese, caramelized onions and peppers and sauerkraut, and baked beans as sides/toppings. 😋
