Merry Almost Christmas, y’all
here’s a 1960s pair of long John’s with the peek-a-boo butt flap ♥️
if all Christmas pajamas were like that I’d definitely get behind them more enthusiastically

this piece went off to the film industry last week: its a midcentury gold brocade prom night suit jacket with the tag “first night” inside of it, which is a play on what most teenagers expected to happen on prom night in the back of a Cadillac back in the 1950s 🖤

happy spooky szn y’all
we were lucky to get some firsthand glimpses of the new remake of Interview with the Vampire: it was filmed outside the shop, and the set & costume teams came by, taking with them lots of our Victorian pieces and ephemera.
the neighborhood was transformed nightly - entire facades were constructed over existing shops, the gas lamps were covered in black and green sheets (to hide them in post production) and the fog machines were set up on each corner while Model T cars were lined up.
we’d also get these crazy notices every few days about coffins dropping from balconies and assuring us there’s “nothing to worry about.”
it was pretty cool.
in a serendipitous twist, we came into 1970s vampire capes and you bet I’m dressing up as a vampire a la “Dark Shadows.” (if you’re not familiar, it’s a really campy 70s tv show about vampires and other mythical creatures. Johnny Depp starred in a really fun movie remake a few years ago.)
happy spooky szn 🧛🏻♀️♥️🎃

The temperature dropped below 90 degrees so of course I’m breaking out the sweaters as a way to will fall weather to come to New Orleans.
This is a midcentury letter sweater from here in New Orleans.
(I had to jack the AC up in the shop to wear this thing for just a few photos. it’s 100% wool and while it’s itchy boy does it keep you warm)

this is a midcentury fur from the Maison Blanche shop on Canal street (anyone local remember that place?).
It’s a heavy coat, but the fur is luxuriously soft. it feels like a dream.
happy friday ♥️

a little Victorian moment
not that I have any vested interest in the British monarchy, but it’s wild that this era of clothing was named after Queen Victoria, who’s father (King George the III) was the same King we declared independence from. Seems like awhile ago but in the grand scheme of time, it’s not much.
Heard an interesting fact about Queen Elizabeth, who passed away yesterday: she was Queen for nearly a third of US history. Bananas.
Anyway, this is an 1890s black lace Victorian coat that I had a few moments to play around with this morning 🖤👸🏻

this might be the raddest jacket I’ve ever sold
it’s a purple satin, fully embroidered military souvenir jacket with embroidered dragon liberty cuffs.
liberty cuffs are an unauthorized decorative embroidery done on the insides of the cuffs popularized in the navy before WW1. during leave (or “liberty” away from the ship) the cuffs would be rolled up where the designs could be seen.
dragons and mermaids were a popular design used throughout the navy during WW2.
this thing hung on the wall of the shop for maybe 48 hours before it sold 💜

Y’all know I love a good kimono robe. This one’s from the 70s in purple polyester with a crane pattern on it. It was made in Japan but definitely has a different vibe than earlier kimonos (20s-1940s) I usually come across and I was feeling it 💜

The doctor will see you now 🩺💋
Okay if y’all follow my shops Instagram, I came into a really neat find for the shop.
These white coats belonged to a physician who worked for LSU and Charity Hospital. The first coat is from the 1950s and the second from later in his career. I tracked down who these belonged to and the physician who owned these was one of the pioneers in emergency medicine residency trainings at Charity hospital which is a remarkable feat and an awesome piece of medical history for here in New Orleans.
For those whose interest is piqued, I make Tik Toks on the history of pieces in the shop - go check it out for more.

Got my hands on some vintage cup-less bras.
The dress is a 1970s goddess-cut nightgown (I’ve posted it here before) but it’s what’s underneath that’s new.
Here’s a vintage white front-closure cupless bra with cross straps
Enjoy 💋

Hello from your favorite vintage shopkeep, here modeling a 1950s denim chore coat because I got all my chores done today 💋
More seriously, denim chore coats are HOT right now. Denim chore coats were designed as workwear coats in the late 19th century in France and were typically worn by those enduring tough physical work: railroad workers, farmers, etc.
They were made slightly oversized to throw on over overalls and by the 1920s, we’re widely manufactured.
This one is a 1950s Hercules denim chore coat with a blanket liner with a perfect wear to it.

Hey y’all,
Been a busy few days but we’ve got some new pieces in the shop. I snagged this one to try on tonight.
This is a 1960s sheer nylon lingerie nightgown with lace trim and flows like a dream.
In case it wasn’t obvious before, I’m expecting. Don’t make it weird.
(I don’t think it’s weird - this is my third baby and I’m always amazed at how my body changes. If this look isn’t your jam, enjoy the ride and how my breasts have quadrupled in size. You can envision my voracious appetite for food and otherwise. Silently. Don’t send me unsolicited pics. Hopefully that helps.)

If I was a military academy cadet 🫡
This is a 1941 military academy formal jacket covered in pins, patches and other decorative recognition from the cadet’s time at Culver Academy.
For those that follow along on the shop’s IG, we also have purple satin athletic wrestling shorts with patched on awards, and a hoodie with the traditional Culver patches from that same time period. All came into the shop at the same time, from different sources, totally coincidentally.
Likely the cadets that owned these items saw wartime, although we’re still looking through the graduation and draft lists to try to pin down what happened to them upon graduation.
For the detail oriented: the Culver iconography is a beaver, the irony of which isn’t lost on me.
