From my studies, I personally believe that the large amounts of medication his Mum was on when she was pregnant with him had an affect on his brain development inside the womb.
But, he also had BPD (borderline personality disorder) which include emotional instability, feelings of worthlessness, insecurity, impulsivity and impaired social relationships.
I don't think we will ever know exactly "why" he did the horrific things he did, but we can understand that there most likely were alot of contributing factors.
